About Soccology
What we do
Soccology provides mental health education, emotional literacy and alternative interventions.
Why we do it
To provide a proactive (as well as reactive) mental health intervention. Provide a service to the underserved majority, we refer to the as the Invisibles. Boys who experience parental conflict, undiagnosed neuro-developmental needs, neighbourhood violence and other unrecorded stressors.
Our services are for boys because they’re less likely to engage in traditional services and trauma responses often manifests in antisocial behaviours. Behaviours that include defiance, displaced anger and struggles to self regulate. The outcome to their responses led to rejection in the home and exclusion from school. The same reasons they’re welcomed, embraced and revered in football (and gangs).
People dedicate their life to the game of football because they like the sport and because of it’s therapeutic elements. It’s why many from adverse backgrounds make it to the top and why many of those seen as “hard to engage”, are engaged by the game of football.
