WHY?

Mental health problems and low emotional literacy skills play a key role in school exclusions, incarceration, hospital admittance, substance abuse, relationship breakdowns, family dysfunction and reduces life expectancy by as much as 20 years. Costing the world greatly in health, happiness and sterling. This is the motivation behind our why.

Our service is for all ages, with a focus on youth, because 50% of adult mental illness starts before the age of 14 and on average, 10 years passes between the person getting unwell and when they receive help.

SOCCOLOGY PROGRAMME DELIVERY AT RISING BALLERS

A lack of affordability, engagement, understanding, comfort and connection are key factors in the data above. Soccology counteracts these barriers by -

  1. Providing a mental and emotional support service that youth and parents do not have to pay for.

  2. Using the most loved game in the world as a buffer, metaphor and example, so that participants can explore emotions from a distance. Therapy can promote anxiety in those who lacked the attention they needed growing up, due to the intensity of the intimacy in therapy sessions. Soccology is a great gateway to therapy, with over 23% of Soccology attendees requested our previous one to one counselling service.

  3. Those who repress their emotions as a coping strategy, can find venturing down memory lane as an anxious experience. We explore weaning, healthier coping mechanisms and strategies to eventually move away from the need to cope.

  4. Rapport between the traditional Clinician and youth can be a struggle at times due to their differences. Our Clinicians have been selected on their ability to build rapport and provide support in a non formal delivery style. Also, the medium of football provides a shared interest, and act as a therapeutic ice breaker.

HOW?

Our programmes use conversation, debate, activities, the arts and quizzes to deliver group programmes.

Delivery takes place at your facility, or we can hire somewhere, with sessions taking place within a classroom, outdoor space and video call (Soccology eSchool).
